Product Description
There's never before been a book like Gallop! Employing a patented new technology called Scanimation, each page is a marvel that brings animals, along with one shining star, to life with art that literally moves. It's impossible not to flip the page, and flip it again, and again, and again.

A first book of motion for kids, it shows a horse in full gallop and a turtle swimming up the page. A dog runs, a cat springs, an eagle soars, and a butterfly flutters. Created by Rufus Butler Seder, an inventor, artist, and filmmaker fascinated by antique optical toys, Scanimation is a state-of-the-art six-phase animation process that combines the "persistence of vision" principle with a striped acetate overlay to give the illusion of movement. It harkens back to the old magical days of the kinetoscope, and the effect is astonishing, like a Muybridge photo series springing into action?or, in terms kids can relate to, like a video without a screen. Complementing the art is a delightful rhyming text full of simple questions and fun, nonsense replies: Can you gallop like a horse? giddyup-a-loo! Can you strut like a rooster? cock-a-doodle-doo!

Every child who opens the book will be amazed?and so will every parent.

5 out of 5 stars WOW!!! that just about covers how you will enjoy this book!AMAZING!   January 3, 2009
First I'd like to say that I have a lot of books! By a lot, I mean thousands(I have a problem-I know!) I have worked running book sales for Scholastic for years and I have seen many books BUT this one stands out from the masses!I purchased this for my 16 and 4 year old daughters.I am not sure who loved it most! I do know that my husband and I LOVE it! I have a friend who is into holograms and fun things of that nature and I am buying him one-and he is 50! This book is easily enjoyed by anyone age 3 and over. The words are minimal, and colorful, but the pictures say it all.The movement is amazing. Not like some books where it is difficult to see the animals moving well. With each turn of the page they move fast and furious-and they look great! YOU MUST GET THIS BOOK!Enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Great book with technology but lacking in text quality.   December 24, 2008
My son really enjoys this book because of the scanamination. It's really cool. But I found the writing lacking- not memorable or catchy at all.

5 out of 5 stars Great for in the car   December 16, 2008

Someone once recommended pop-up books for kids to look at on a long car trip. I would add this book to that recommendation. It is excellent for a child to enjoy even if you're unable to read it to them at the moment.

5 out of 5 stars Create an appreciation of books, early!   November 29, 2008
I saw this book in a shop while on vacation. Once home I ordered it for my grandson (18 mos) for part of his Christmas. I am always on the lookout for unique books for my grandchildren. Books with beautiful artwork, heartfelt stories, tactile pages, etc. This book starts a whole new genre in our "library"--animation!

5 out of 5 stars Great gift book for girls and boys of wide range of ages   November 23, 2008

My 3 year old daughter received this book as a gift from grandma, and I have since purchased multiple copies of this book and the Swing! book (companion book with sports theme) and have given it as a gift to children from infancy to age 3. It is very cool. Yes, the text leaves a lot to be desired, but it makes up for it with the pictures. I highly recommend both books. The cards, which are based on this book, are also neat, and come with stickers so that you can personalize them for a variety of occasions.
