5 out of 5 stars Truly Self-Help   April 1, 2003

This book is both carefully researched and clearly written. As a massage therapist I have used it to guide my work and I have receommended it to clients as well as shown them how to treat their specific pain areas. Many are happily surprised with the results.

This is one of the best books I've seen so far. I have told other massage therapists to get this book, and they love it too. It has helped me a lot.

When you get your copy of this book, take it to Kinkos or your local equivalent, and have them cut the spine off, and spiral-bind it so that it will lay flat and stay together. It will cost you less than $5.

Also, make about ten copies of the title page to hand out to others, so you give them purchasing info and do not feel obliged to lend it.

This book is spreading like a chain letter, and deserves to. It is likely to be judged in the future the greatest contribution to public health of the decade. Knock-offs are beginning to appear; I do not find it credible that its imitators could improve on it one iota.

Well, maybe not EVERYTHING, but I must say that it helped me get rid of an assortment of aches and pains within a matter of days. Coming to weight training and martial arts in my early thirties, and not having been athletic when I was in my teens and twenties, I quickly found myself the owner of a variety of fairly painful muscle pulls, rotator cuff problems, and severe pain in my hips. I also had had a nagging, bothersome pain between my shoulder blades for many years, and tried cranio-sacral therapy, accupuncture, and regular massage therapy, with less than great results. This book has taught me how to erase pain that I've lived with for 10-15 years. Fantastic book.

5 out of 5 stars Good for painful muscles.   November 7, 2002

I looked at this book from the perspective of someone that suffers with back pain from time to time. The techniques in this book are useful to treat trigger points, which are basically "irritable" spots in your muscles. People with back pain might find these techniques useful on their back and hip muscles, usually a problem with chronic back pain.

Another resource you can consider, also by the same publisher, New Harbinger, is "The Multifidus Back Pain Solution" (here at amazon.ca too) As far as I can tell, treating trigger points won't strengthen your back muscles, so that's why this other book is good to combine with it. "The Multifidus Back Pain Solution" shows you how to strengthen your multifidus muscle, a back muscle shown to be abnormal in a lot of people with back pain, while "The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook" can show you how to treat trigger points in the back muscles. You could call it "do it yourself physical therapy" compliments of amazon.ca! I recommend using both books in combination to treat the whole kit and caboodle. Cheers.
